Deck as an architectural structure is commonly built to extend living area outdoors, but at the same time a tasteful design can add some character to a whole house. Decking material which is most visible part of the deck is often made from much more appealing products. For those who prefer natural wood, ipe, redwood, western red cedar or mahogany maybe the best option but it will require periodically sealing to keep it protected.
Man made composite products like Trex or Veranda will be material of choice if low maintenance is the main concern. They come in different colors and one side of the board often has wood grain imprint to imitate natural lumber.
