Decks and Patios Design Ideas

This is an example of patio enclosure very popular in warm states. It provides shade for outdoor family gatherings, but does not protect the area from rain.
It is build from exterior grade lumber painted white to match color of house trim.
The whole structure is supported on four posts on one end and in the center and
attached to the house on the other side.
Each column contains 4”x4”posts and two 2”x6”boards on both sides. Two 4”x10” beams are supporting 2”x10” rafters installed 24” of center. Top of patio is covered with
2”x2” lattice mounted every 2”. Direction of lattice boards is set from south
to north, so the area under the patio stays in shade for most of the day.

Design of these two free standing patio enclosures is based on specific purpose
and desired outcome.

The patio to the right( approximately 10’x10’) was built to accommodate outdoor hot tub, the larger patio to the left (10’x20’ ) serves as a seating area.

In both cases sun and rain protection were important. The color of exposed lumber and roofing material matches the house exterior.

This redwood deck is a good example of simple design.
Supporting structure is constructed out of pressure treated lumber ( not visible ) attached to the house on two sides and anchored to the existing concrete slab to form a single level
platform with one long step.

California redwood is the material
of choice for all exposed lumber including 2”x4” deck planks installed parallel to the wall,
step and railing posts and balusters.

This patio enclosure built over existing wood deck is made entirely from aluminum. All elements imitate natural lumber
so well that with a closer look one may even notice imprints of wood grains. Each piece is factory painted and can be ordered
cut to size. It is considered a low maintenance option because it does not require periodical painting unlike traditional wood structures.
